Introducing Our Partnership with Registered Dietitian Lindsay Pleskot
At Kaslo Sourdough Pasta, we believe food is about more than just what’s on your plate. It’s about where ingredients come from, how food is made, the traditions behind it, and the people who bring it to life.
That’s why we’re excited to partner with Registered Dietitian, recipe developer, author, and food content creator Lindsay Pleskot. Based in Vancouver, Lindsay is a mom of two and has been a Registered Dietitian since 2010. With a background that includes diabetes education, heart health, mental health programs, private practice, and nutrition coaching, she brings years of experience to the table. She’s also a certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor and the bestselling author of The Feel-Good Meal Plan.
But beyond her professional experience, Lindsay has a genuine love for food and the kitchen. She says she’s been cooking since she was a child, when she and her sister made their first dish, a very salty fried rice, for their parents. Today, that same sense of curiosity and fun in the kitchen is still at the heart of what she does. As a busy mom, she understands the realities of getting family-friendly healthy dinners on the table while making food enjoyable and creating connection around it.
Her approach to nutrition is rooted in adding more nourishment rather than taking foods away, with an emphasis on simple, satisfying meals that fit into busy everyday life. That philosophy makes Lindsay a natural fit for what we want Kaslo Kitchen: The Feel Good Series to be: approachable, practical, and grounded in enjoying good food.
Kaslo Kitchen: The Feel Good Series
Through this partnership, Lindsay will be joining us for Kaslo Kitchen: The Feel Good Series, an ongoing collection of videos and recipes that brings together her nutrition expertise and our passion for traditional sourdough fermentation and Canadian food. Throughout the series, Lindsay will explore everything from understanding where our food comes from and learning more about sourdough fermentation to building balanced meals, cooking with seasonal ingredients, and creating family-friendly dishes.
Alongside the new videos and recipes we’ll be sharing with Lindsay, you’ll also find plenty of inspiration in our existing recipe collection, from sourdough pasta chips to summer pasta salads and comforting weeknight meals. The recipes and videos created through this partnership will add another perspective, combining practical nutrition guidance with delicious, approachable ways to enjoy gut-friendly pasta.
Exploring Food, Fermentation and Everyday Nutrition
Over the course of Kaslo Kitchen: The Feel Good Series, Lindsay will explore the many stories connected to food, bringing her practical nutrition perspective to the traditions, ingredients, and everyday meals that make up our food culture.
The series will touch on a few key themes:
-
Understanding where our food comes from, including local food systems, and what food labels like “Product of Canada,” “Made in Canada,” and “Buy BC” really mean.
-
Taking a closer look at fermentation, from the history and tradition of sourdough to what makes our approach unique. We’ll also share more about the research that has helped us better understand our long-standing sourdough culture, including our work with Dr. Michael Gänzle, a leading researcher in food microbiology and sourdough fermentation at the University of Alberta.
-
Making balanced eating practical, with approachable ideas for building satisfying meals, adding variety to your plate, and enjoying easy-to-digest pasta as part of everyday life.
-
Bringing good food into the real world, with simple recipes, grocery shopping tips, seasonal ingredients, budget-friendly ideas, and family-friendly meals.
It’s all about making food and nutrition feel a little less complicated and a lot more approachable, while finding simple ways to enjoy good food at home.
Our First Conversation: Understanding Canadian Food Labels
We’re kicking off Kaslo Kitchen: The Feel Good Series with a conversation about something that matters deeply to us at Kaslo Sourdough Pasta: understanding where your food comes from.
In the first video, Lindsay explores the difference between “Made in Canada,” “Product of Canada,” and “Buy BC,” helping break down what these labels mean and why supporting local food systems matters.
As a family-owned business producing locally crafted sourdough pasta in Kaslo, British Columbia, we’re proud to be a BC-made pasta brand and Canadian food producer. We’re committed to thoughtfully crafting our pasta while supporting Canadian ingredients and producers.
A Shared Passion for Traditional Food
One of the topics we’re especially excited to explore is sourdough fermentation.
At Kaslo Sourdough Pasta, we’ve been working with our sourdough culture for more than 30 years. This long-standing culture is at the heart of our sourdough journey and reflects the experience, care, and traditional fermentation methods that have shaped our products over the years.
As part of the series, we’ll share more about the history of fermentation and what makes our approach unique. We’ll also explore the research that has helped us better understand our sourdough culture, including our work with Dr. Michael Gänzle, a leading researcher in food microbiology and sourdough fermentation at the University of Alberta. His research has helped characterize the bacterial composition of the Kaslo Sourdough culture and provided a deeper understanding of what makes our long-standing culture unique.
As we continue learning more about traditional fermentation, we’re excited to share the story behind our sourdough culture and the decades of experience that have shaped the pasta we make today.
More Than Just Pasta
This partnership is about more than recipes. It’s about reconnecting with where food comes from, celebrating Canadian agriculture, learning about traditional food practices, and making balanced eating feel achievable.
From grocery shopping tips and seasonal recipes to conversations around fermentation, nutrition, and local food systems, Lindsay will help bring a fresh perspective to the many ways we can enjoy food in everyday life.
Whether you’re curious about sourdough fermentation, looking for simple meal inspiration, interested in supporting local food systems, or wanting practical nutrition tips from a trusted expert, we hope this series leaves you feeling informed and inspired.
